4711 Original Eau De Cologne

4711 Original Eau De Cologne
4711 Original Eau de Cologne was created in 1792 in Cologne on 4711 Carillons Street by Wilhelm Muelhens. He was given the recipe as a wedding gift by a carthusian monk and it was said to be the recipe of ”aqua mirabilis”, a miracle water that could be for both internal and external use. He started the manufacturing and it became a huge success, even contemporary stars of the time such as Goethe and Richard Wagner used it faithfully.

The recipe remains a secret, but it is made on essential oils for the aroma-therapeutic qualities. From the beginning it was used both externally as well as internally. In 1810 Napoleon decided that all secret recipes for internal use should be made public, and due to this Wilhelm Muelhens made the decision to sell it for external use only.

  • Top notes: bergamot, lemon, orange and petitgrain.
  • Middle notes: rosemary, lavender and roses.
  • Base notes: musk and neroli.
